Desktop without icons

April 4, 2011 4 comments

A usual desktop looks like this.

My desktop was like this before I got my hands on Windows 7. I use its taskbar for opening chrome, media player etc., and I find the icons on my desktops like a spot on the moon. I love my desktop with no icons whatsoever. For me, Recycle Bin is a constant icon and there is also a folder that keeps all the previous icons.

I made these invisible and kept them at the edges (left top and right top).

Making a normal icon invisible is pretty easy. Half of you must be knowing, but still,

1. First of all create a new folder.

2. Right Click on the folder and select ‘Rename’. Hold the ‘Alt’ key and type in 0160. Press Enter. You’ll notice that the folder will have no name.

3. The final step is to change the icon in order to make it invisible. Right click on the folder and go to Properties > Customize > Change the icon > Select the blank one (there are about three of them, choose any one) > Ok.

I copied it from another site, not written by me.

The easy part is done, now the difficult part, how to hide the recycle bin?

Do Step 2 as above. After renaming, go to Control Panel>Personalization>Change Desktop Icons.

Select Recycle Bin(empty) and click on change icon, repeat as step 3.

Do the same for Recycle Bin(full).

For XP users, Right click on the desktop>Properties>Background>Customize Desktop. The rest can be repeated.

Manchester United Winter Transfer Plans : Part 1 – The Keeper

December 14, 2010 Leave a comment

This season has gone very well for the red devils despite poor away form, they currently sit top of the Premier League and have been undefeated in the last 16 PL games. Manchester United’s squad looks good but need some reinforcements especially in the goalkeeper and centre midfield sections.

Manchester United currently have a top class goalkeeper in Edwin Van der Sar who looks certain to retire come the end of the season. Their backup keeper Tomasz Kuszczak looks evident to leave the club after the signing of Anders Linegaard from Aaelsunds. Ben Amos the second backup doesn’t look promising enough to be the number 1 keeper.

So reinforcements are inevitable. United have been linked with David De Gea of Atletico Madrid, who is just 20 and is one of the hottest properties in Europe. He looks well set to be the successor of Iker Casillas. Though he was poor in the game vs Real Madrid but he’s a young keeper who could seal this position for years to come. His price would nothing less 18m and won’t come easily. Also there is an outside chance of signing Sergio Asenjo, the benchwarmer at Atletico, second to De Gea, who could cost less. De Gea could prove to be a world class keeper.

Allan McGregor was linked a few times in the past and i don’t expect Sir Alex to sign him though he could cost little as 7-8m.

Manuel Neuer has expressed his desire to leave the club come summer and is the german number 1. He has enough experiences and has also played in the world cup. His deal with Schalke expires in the 2012 summer, so a cut-price deal could well be agreed. He could landed for about 12-15m.

Igor Akinfeev, the russian was linked a few years ago and the fact that he is out of contract could well make him one of the easy choices.

Maarten Stekelenberg, the dutch number 1 keeper and currently at Ajax has been linked to United, some tabloids saying that he’s been talking to VDS about life at United. He is not a top class keeper in my eyes. He’s an average keeper, nothing more nothing less. The fact that he replaced VDS at Holland and Ajax doesn’t mean he’d do the same at United. He could cost around 10m. He’s very much prone to errors.

Pepe Reina, complete outside chance as he’s at Liverpool (United’s rivals) but nonetheless a target.

Hugo Lloris, the french keeper, guarding the Lyon goal, would not come cheap at all. Lyon have a habit of selling their players at relatively high prices. Also his current inability to deal with corners and set-pieces could cut his chances of making a move. He would cost about 20m

Gianluigi Buffon, the Turin-based Juventus’ rock for years, could be tempted to Manchester United after revelations that Storari (Juventus’ keeper) could keep his place despite Gigi’s return to full fitness. He was linked in the summer with moves involving player-plus cash deals with evra or vidic moving in the other directions. I would not recommend such a keeper and he’s old, would cost high, and a poor injury record of late, we don’t need no Owens.

Rene Adler, don’t know anything about as such but he was ahead of Neuer for the German goalkeeping job, before he got injured.

I am confused with 2 possibilities.

One being, De Gea arriving in summer with Linegaard already there, both could fight for the first place.

Other being, Neuer arriving in Summer becoming the number 1 keeper and Linegaard as his back-up.

It is certain VDS will retire or remain as a backup keeper (not number 1), Kuszczak sold in winter or summer and Amos going out on loan to gain some experience.

I will constantly be adding more goalkeepers to the past as and when they are linked to United.

The Aspect Ratio Problem

November 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Recently I ripped off some of my old movies in CDs like Superman (bought them in 2001). The aspect ratio was 4:3 (as you all know about it, if not refer here). It looks somewhat like this.

Silver Surfer, remember?

I don't own this image, its just a random searched image from Google.

It only comes like this if you have a monitor of 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen).

I noticed some gaps on the left and right side of the video. Usual! I searched on google and found out nothing concrete. Once upon a day, making a mistake while watching the video (similar to the Chemical X accident that created Powerpuff Girls),I got my answers. There was lighting in the sky, the comets were seen, s**i**r was seen giving births to babies on the street, the watchman was jumping high, Undertaker had risen from grave, ghost of Hitler was seen wandering. (Tweaked references from Julius Caesar)

I had the solution similar to as the answer of life, universe and everything ( and this wasn’t 42).

Nuff said, back to business.

It was simple, almost everyone has k’lite installed (download here) which has a bad habit of associating everything it has with Media Player Classic, unless you don’t change the options.

For this, you must have K-lite installed, open your media player classic.

Step 1 – Run the video slash episode slash movies (or EVM) and pause it. Right Click, Video Frame>Override Aspect Ratio>16:9 . Also make sure the option of  ‘touch video from outside’ is checked in Video Frame.

Step 2 – Watch.

Media Player Classic

This is also possible in VLC Media Player, Right click, Video>Aspect Ratio>16:9 or 16:10.

VLC Media Player

View MKV thumbnails in Windows 7

November 16, 2010 Leave a comment

Woke up in the morning, brushed up, tied my laces, gelled my hair, opened my computer, made a blog and started this post.

Have a lot of movies, episodes or videos? If they are avi you would should be getting a thumbnail view like this. (if not change the view from ‘small icons’ to ‘large/extra large icons’ and don’t ask me how).

This thumbnail view in Windows 7 and Vista makes quite definitely certainly one of good things about it. What if you have a hell lot of mkv files (blu-ray prints) and the thumbnail doesn’t come up. I really felt that  f***ing annoying. I wasted almost an hour searching for the possible ways to view these thumbnails.

EASY METHOD (for the lazy ones like me)

Just click on this and download it here. Install it as usual.

Download Shark007 codecs from here. That’s it.

The former is easier than the latter due to differences in file size.

Feel free to comment and ask anything. I got an A2 in English, don’t go on my grammar.
